Bullet point benefits:

- UP-OCC mono crystal LITZ stranded copper, the purest copper available in the best layout to eliminate skin effect
- 22 awg, the perfect amount of copper for tonal neutrality
- More complex litz layout (type 4/ type 2 hybrid), what we find as the best possible litz layout resulting in ultimate performance.
- Very high strand count and super fine stranding (each strand less than a skin depth)
- Cotton outer jacket (beneficial dielectric properties)
- Symmetrical and established high angle crossing self-shielding braid
- Feather light weight, unparalleled comfort and near complete lack of microphonics.
- High end connectors and high end solder are the standard
- All solder points are heavily cleaned with special solution before and after soldering.
- Connector pins are treated with cleaner/protectant prior to packaging.

- All of our new Litz Norn series headphone cables come with a logo debossed brown velour bag to keep your cable safe when traveling or when not in use.

What is the "skin effect"? What is litz up-occ wire?

Skin effect is the tendency for high-frequency currents to flow on the surface of a conductor decreasing at greater depths. As such, the electric current flows mainly at the skin of the conductor, at an average depth called the skin depth. The cable that is able to eliminate this skin effect combined with other design factors will achieve the most neutral cable possible.

Our individual strand size is the finest possible that our up-occ manufacturer can produce, and rest assured each strand is less than a skin depth which is of primary importance in regards to strand size and litz configuration. Therefore our individual strands do not suffer a skin effect loss. Further, each individual strand is coated with an ultra thin film which forces the current to flow in each individual strand and not drift to the outside of the main bundle of strands (this drifting occurs in non litz wire).

The combination of the coating of the individual strands and our particular more complex layout describes what is known as litz wire. Litz wire is the best solution for eliminating skin effect as the overall magnetic field acts equally on all the wires and causes the total current to be distributed equally among them.

Basically there are round Litz type 1 all the way to type 6 in configuration with Litz 1 and Litz 2 being the most simplistic configurations. Our wire uses a more complex configuration of hybrid type 4 / type 2 which we strongly feel results in the maximum performance for our 22 awg ultra pure occ (ohno continuous cast) copper wire. These more complex Litz constructions can be used to properly ensure equal strand currents.

Why Up-occ?

Our copper used is known as Mono Crystal Up-occ or Ultra Pure Ohno Continuous Cast. This is the purest possible copper achievable with today's technology. Up-occ is defined by a single, long grain copper crystalline structure. Please see a diagram here for a simple comparison of grain structures OCC vs. OFC. Ohno Continuous Casting was introduced back in 1986 by professor Ohno of Chiba Institute of Technology in Japan. This process allows the drawing of the copper to result in extremely long grain boundaries (single copper grain structures of over 700 feet in length).

Ultimately our new Norn Series wire is the best combination of materials, design and superior craftsmanship achieving what we feel is the most neutral sound today in a wire.

*In a final note we have exclusivity with the larger up-occ manufacturer (central location where everyone procures up occ) for our particular design, as such that no one else can duplicate it exactly. And we feel ours is the best design. This was granted as we were the first to develop litz/cotton jacket wire with the up-occ manufacturer which in turn ended up creating new product ideas for their business.

The development of this new wire has been a lengthy process, but well worth the effort. Norse Audio is extremely proud of this new design and we feel that it will speak for itself. The wire is completed entirely by the manufacturer, including the weaving of the outer cotton jacket. In combination with our efficient business model we are thus able to bring our cable at more beneficial price points to the customer. Our unique exotic wood splitter adds that finishing touch and creates a beautiful and unique cable in all aspects.

A long terme j'aimerais un ampli casque symètrique. :-?
